It’s easy to get stressed out by the tech side of running your creative business – there are just so many platforms, so many decisions, so many things to learn, so many error messages, and so on. However, there are some easy things that you can begin to do to help reframe your negative feelings about tech, and kiss that stress and overwhelm goodbye. The good news is that tech is here to make our lives easier and simpler – we just have to get over our hesitations and take the plunge.
Make a Decision
Don’t spend tons of time researching every single program and platform out there. This can be overwhelming and stressful before you’ve even gotten started. Go to someone you trust, ask them their favorites, narrow your options down to three different ones, research those, and make your final decision. Move on and don’t overthink it.
Stay There
Find the tech that you are going to use and stay there. No platform or program is absolutely perfect, but constantly switching to different ones will only add to your tech stress. Also, when you stay with one platform, it gets easier every time you use it. Commit to learning the platform and sticking with it, and it will only become more simple as time goes on.
Be Basic
If you can get away with a basic tech platform, just go for it. Sometimes the platform with all of the bells and whistles seems enticing, but if you struggle with tech stress, it might be easier to just have something that is basic and simple. No need to complicate something that doesn’t need to be complicated!
Outsource
If you have room in your budget, outsource your tech tasks. Have someone else get it all set up and running smoothly, and then come in to learn how to operate it. You don’t have to be the one to get it off the ground. They can get it started and implement it, and then you can confidently learn the basics of the software.
Change Your Mindset
Instead of saying “I’m really bad at tech,” or “I always mess up the tech stuff”, try saying something like “I will figure it out.” It’s important to shift your mindset because those negative affirmations do not serve you or your business. Tech is something that you simply have to build self-confidence around. It’s not going away, and it will only make your life easier.
If you are an online business owner, you know that tech is a big part of the picture. From your marketing to social media to launching your workshops, there are platforms and programs for all of it. The first step is just to dive in and get started. Implement some of these tech tips to take away some of the stress and overwhelm so you can confidently use tech to your advantage.
