Acquiring new members to your membership community is important, but retaining those members is even more important. Sometimes you have to hit “pause” on marketing and outreach, and just focus on nurturing the audience and members that you currently have. The goal is to keep your members engaged. Here are the top 4 ways to retain members in your membership community and keep engagement going!

Communicate

Communication is the key to any healthy relationship, even the relationship with your customers. Your members need to be in the loop on events, updates, and other resources included in their membership. Get in the habit of regularly talking with your customers, whether that’s through your private Facebook Group, weekly email updates, or even SMS text messages. A big part of why your members joined your community is because of YOU, so show up for them and be present.

Underpromise and Overdeliver

This is really how your membership community will thrive! Stir things up and keep your members on their toes. Offer bonuses, giveaways, and additional perks that they will see as something a little extra. Go above and beyond and throw in one extra lesson a month or another free resource. Your members will truly feel that being a part of your community is well worth the monthly cost.

Get Feedback

Regularly ask your members for feedback and suggestions. Your customers love to know that their voice is heard, plus it’s helpful for you to know for future releases and topics. You want your membership content to align with your members’ interests. Get feedback through social media comments in your Facebook group, community forums in your membership platform, or email surveys.

Plan Ahead

People love to know what’s coming next. If you plan ahead and have things for your members to get really excited about, they will stick around and be that long-term member that you need. Plan guest speakers, fun events, and bonus sessions – anything to get your members engaged. As the owner, it’s your job to keep the momentum going and keep things exciting! Even if you try something new and it doesn’t work, it’s better than not trying at all.

In order for your membership to survive and thrive, you need to retain your members. It’s up to you to keep your foot on the gas and keep your members engaged and happy. This requires you to regularly communicate, go above and beyond their expectations, use their feedback to improve, and plan ahead. With these simple tips, you are sure to maintain a successful membership with an engaging community of artists.
