If you have any kind of online business, setting up a Facebook group is a free and simple way to build a community of like-minded individuals that care about you and your work. Think of this as your “home base” where you can share ideas and resources, go live, and interact with members in real-time. Your Facebook group is essentially your target audience, and when the time is right, you can share your membership launch, paid challenges, or online events. Here are the key things you need when setting up your Facebook Group.

Name and Description

If you want your group to be easily found, you must make sure you use keywords that you know your ideal client would search. For example, if you are a textile artist, make sure you include words like “fiber”, “fabric”, or “woven” in your name. Your group description will tell the searcher exactly what to expect when joining the group – its purpose and if it’s the right fit for them. You want to be sure you are attracting the right people.

Cover Photo

Your cover photo is one of the first things that someone sees when they are perusing through Facebook groups. Use eye-catching colors, graphics, and pictures so that your group stands out. You can even use your cover photo to promote upcoming events or advertise your lead magnet to get members on your email list. It’s a good idea to include a photo of yourself in your cover photo too so that your members can get to know you and your personality.

Membership Questions

With membership questions, you can gather helpful information and learn more about the person trying to join your group. You can make the questions simple, such as “What do you want to learn in this group?”  Or you can get to know your audience better by asking, “What inspired you to become an artist?” For analytics sake, you can include, “How did you hear about us?” so that you know how people are finding your group. Get creative!

Group Rules

Lastly, and most importantly, you need a list of group rules when setting up your Facebook group. The group rules, as with any Facebook group, lay the foundation of what can and cannot go on within your group. You will need to set clear boundaries and make sure your audience knows that you mean business. Use your rules to promote your core values and make sure that everyone within the group adheres to them. This ensures that your Facebook group remains a safe and positive place for all!

Facebook groups are a powerful marketing tool, helping you engage with your customers and attract new ones. This is one of the best ways that you can communicate with your audience while sharing your content, selling your services, building strong personal relationships, and creating a space for support.
