Disappointing launches happen. You pour your heart and soul into it, and it flops. Welcome to entrepreneurship! This happens to every business owner, whether it’s a launch that didn’t go as planned or you simply didn’t meet the goal that you were striving towards. The important thing to remember is, you need to bounce back. The faster you recover, the more creative, productive, and efficient you can be for the future. But, how do you pull yourself out from under that cloud of disappointment and get motivated again? Here are my best tips to recover from a disappointing launch.
Give Yourself Time to Be Sad
It’s okay to be sad when your launch flops. In fact, you should give yourself a good 24 hours to simply feel the disappointment. This is a totally normal reaction to not meeting your business goals. Have your moment of negative emotions and do what you need to do – take a nap, call a friend, cry, feel defeated, and then move on. Literally give yourself a cut-off time, let it go, and get right back into the game.
Learn Your Lessons
When something isn’t working, it’s time to ask yourself, “why?” This is where you can learn lessons from your failed launch. What worked about it? What didn’t work? Take a look at the data and metrics, and do a debrief of all of the information you have. Beautiful things can come from these disappointing launches. This is how we, as entrepreneurs, learn and make improvements to our offerings, so that the next launch is amazing.
Keep Looking Forward
Instead of saying “What’s wrong with my business?”, maybe try, “What can I do differently next time?” Don’t dwell in the past and fixate on your failed launch, but look to the future. Sometimes you just don’t know how things are going to go. Strategies that used to work great maybe don’t work anymore, and that’s just what happens. View your next launch as a new opportunity for you and your business, leave the past in the past.
Disappointing launches are just part of owning a creative business, and it doesn’t mean that your business as a whole is failing. When you experience a launch flop, it’s important to get in the right mindset and reframe. Use these simple tactics to get back in the game and learn from the disappointment, so you can improve and make your business even better.
