Are you spending lots of time curating posts to your social media feed that have little to no comments, likes, or engagement? This can be so frustrating, especially when you’re battling with the infamous social media algorithm. In case you don’t know, the algorithm is a way that the platform organizes posts in your feed, based on relevancy instead of chronological order. So, how do you make sure your posts are showing up on top? Here are my best tips for beating the social media algorithm.

Encourage Engagement From Your Audience

Engagement equals more engagement! The algorithm rewards likes, comments, and shares with more exposure in the feed, so make sure every post you share asks your followers a question. This is a simple and easy way to get your audience to interact with you, while also giving you the opportunity to personally connect with them.

Use the Right Hashtags

Hashtags make your content searchable, therefore making it easy to find. As far as the algorithm, hashtags assign your post a particular category that makes it likely to appear in the feed of those interested in that particular hashtag. Try not to use popular or generic hashtags, but look for those that are specific and fit into your niche.

Figure Out Your Post Timing and Frequency

Posting when your audience is more likely to be online and active is a great way to beat the algorithm. You should also strive to be active on social media. The algorithm tends to reward accounts that post consistently, rather than just once in a while. Come up with a content calendar and make sure you are posting frequently, and crossposting your content across multiple platforms.

Post More Video

It’s no secret that video is dominating the social media sphere. The algorithm tends to highly reward videos published to that particular platform, like Instagram Reels. Good news – as an artist, you can easily create valuable video content as you show off your studio space, film your art process, or post a quick art tutorial.

Love it or hate it, social media algorithms are here to stay. The key is to learn how to use the algorithm to your advantage so that your posts are getting bumped in your audiences’ feeds. This is crucial for growing your social media following, and ultimately, your online business.
