Now that you have a successful membership built, it’s time to grow! You can’t just expect people to find you though – you need to be active in your marketing efforts to bring in new members. There are several different ways to grow your members in your membership site (and most of these I can actually help you with!) Let’s talk about the 4 ways to attract new members to your membership. 

Content Marketing 

People love free content! When you provide free, quality content to your audience, it shows that you are a knowledgeable expert that can be trusted. This is a preview of what they can expect from you in a paid membership. The key is to provide valuable content (not just a sales pitch), but also include a call-to-action at the end of your blog post or social media update. Work with other industry experts in your field to possibly guest write on their blog or team up for a social media live event.

Paid Advertising 

When you think of growing, paid advertising is probably the first thing that comes to mind when trying to attract new members to your membership. While you may not like working advertising into your budget, it does work. Many business owners have lots of success with Facebook Ads or PPC through Google AdWords, which is a great place to start. Look at your budget and create valuable, strategic ads that target your customer. It’s quality not quantity here, so customize your ads and make them count! 

Social Media

If you’re an artist in the online world, you need to be on social media and you need to be active on those platforms. Some social media networks are more beneficial than others (I strongly recommend Instagram and Facebook), but hang out where your audience hangs out. Post valuable content and create a following. Users love to see YOU, so show them your creative process, your studio, or even your morning routine. Follow the 80/20 rule – 80% of content should be entertaining and the rest should be promotional. 

Email Marketing 

Email marketing is the best way to keep in touch with your customers and attract new members too. Use email marketing to its fullest potential! This means letting members (and non-members) know about important updates, new content, and other relevant news. Use your email marketing to target those non-members with incentives to join your membership, such as exclusive bonuses and discounts.

If you’re new to building your audience, I’d recommend starting with Social Media. It’s an easy platform for people to get to know you and only requires the investment of your time. Consistency is key! Pick one thing and do it well. Once you have it mastered, start working on another channel (hint: email marketing) to attract your people!
