“Would you like fries with that?”

If you’ve ever been asked that question, then you have experienced a cart bump. And it really works! McDonald’s sells 9 million pounds of french fries every single day, mostly from that one simple question.

In the online sales world, a cart bump is when the customer is presented with an add-on product or service right before they are going to check out. This is an incredibly powerful tool to maximize your profit during the checkout process. It works because you are offering a product to someone who is already a buyer. They are on board with you and your services, so adding on something may seem appealing. Cart bumps are also perfect for providing more value to the customer and exposing them to even more services or products. Let’s go over some effective examples of cart bumps.

Digital Workbooks or Ebooks

If you are selling a course, a digital workbook is a great cart bump. This can include a place for your students to take notes, answer questions, write out goals, and more. You can also offer an ebook on a subject that relates to your material. For example, if you’re a yoga instructor, you could offer an ebook on meditation. It doesn’t have to be complicated, but just something additional that could provide even more valuable information.

Mini-Courses

Instead of doing an ebook, you could offer an entire mini-course with just a handful of modules to complete. This could be a great add-on to a creative membership because it is short and sweet while also providing some basic instruction on a related subject. This is also an ideal way to test out material. If lots of people are adding on your mini-course, then there is a demand for this particular knowledge, which you could expand on in the future.

Coaching Sessions

People who are already purchasing your services and products trust you. They trust that you have expert knowledge and are ready to learn from you. Offering a coaching session is one of the easiest ways to increase your sales with a cart bump because it’s highly valuable and personalized. Depending on how much time you would like to dedicate, you could offer monthly coaching sessions or just a single one-hour coaching session to give them some tips and help them along their artistic journey.

Cart bumps are an incredibly powerful sales tool to use when setting up your checkout process. All it requires is a little bit of knowledge on what your customer would purchase as an add-on product or service. The key is to make sure it is something valuable, related to your material, and within the same pricing as the original product.
